Fear is nothing more than our mind creation. The object of fear is to defend us from life frightening situations. Such behavior is not harmful for us until or unless it affect our personality. There is a difference between to be careful and to be fearful. When you become over caring for a particular thing, you become start to fear because of loss of that particular thing. For example: we all love our lives so we all fear from all the life-threatening conditions, a very normal example. So safe driving, follow traffic rules, take healthy food to protect yourself from disease etc. show caring nature while avoid driving, going outside from your home, eating etc. show fearful nature of a person. So you can understand fear make us coward and push away from a healthy, prosper and happy life. Fear can cause us to create a ridiculous reaction to challenge we face. Fear compels restrictions on our minds, eliminating our transparency and leaving only depressing ideas. Fear causes us to take steps emotionally because of panic condition, our mind lock up and we respond unconsciously to defend ourselves and our self-esteems.
Fear holds back us in circumstances where there is no direct risk to life, but we might observe a risk to our life as we are familiar with it. Fear of failure is one of the most crippling feeling that can bound your potential in life. Fear of social censure makes one feel lonesome. Fear of heights takes away the pleasure of reaching mountain crest and touching the clouds.
